Awards & Annual Day 2021-22
The 32nd Awards & Annual Day of 沙巴体育 College of Nursing (MCON), 沙巴体育 Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), 沙巴体育 was held on Saturday, 26th March 2022.
“Excellence in education, excellence in practice and excellence in retention is very evident in MAHE. So I stress that it is MA – means ‘mother’ and HE – means ‘is there,” said the Chief Guest of the function, Mrs Evelyn P Kannan, Secretary-General, Trained Nurses Association of India, New Delhi. She inspired the young students with her own stories which changed her attitude towards the Nursing profession. Continuing her talk, she said, how long one lives do not matter, but how one lives is what matters. She opined that nursing is called to relieve the suffering, so a Nurse must be dedicated, nurtured and change oneself to care for others. Advising the young generation, she said students should have a good attitude, aptitude and be committed to the profession.
Dr Vincia Pandian, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean, Immersive learning and Digital innovations, John Hopkins School of Nursing, Baltimore, Maryland, was the Guest of Honor of the event. She emphasized the importance of effort, motivation, passion and perseverance which is required to achieve one’s dream. She focused on the internal and external motivators which are essential to attain the goal. She advised the students to strive hard and take advantage of every opportunity. She encouraged the students to work hard, learn and achieve mastery.
Dr Venkatraya M Prabhu, Pro Vice-Chancellor Health Sciences, MAHE, 沙巴体育, in his presidential address said he is proud of the fact that MCON is doing excellent in 沙巴体育 & Teaching. The young professionals produced by MCON are the ambassadors of the Nursing profession. He further said, ‘MCON is a jewel in the crown of MAHE”. He motivated the prospective nurses to have a good Samaritan spirit. He stressed Florence Nightingale’s vision for universal recognition of nurses. During his speech, he said the medical profession is based on ‘Cure Rarely, Comfort Mostly, Console Always’.
Meritorious students of BSc, PBBSc, MSc, MPhil Nursing, Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care and PhD & faculty members were awarded for their various achievements. Ms Viola Josna Mathias, BSc Nursing batch of 2017-21 was awarded the Best outgoing student.
Dr Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean and Professor, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON, 沙巴体育, welcomed the gathering and introduced both the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honor. Dr Judith A Noronha, Dean, MCON, 沙巴体育 presented the Annual report of the college. Mrs Sheela Shetty, Assistant Professor and Convener of the Annual Day program proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs Flavia Noronha, Lecturer, compered the formal program.
The formal function was followed by a captivating multicultural entertainment program by the students and faculty of the college.
