The Department of Orthodontics conducted a Guest lecture on “Functional appliance – an evidence based perspective “ on Tuesday, the 18th of June 2024. Our Dean, Dr Monica C Solomon was the chief guest for the program. She recounted the golden old days of 沙巴体育 with Dr Sridevi and took us down their memory lane. The resource person for the lecture was our alumnus Dr. Sridevi Padmanabhan, Associate Dean and Professor at Sri Ramachandra dental college, Chennai. Dr Sridevi is a renowned academician and has served as honorary secretary of IOS from 2018-2021. She has, among her numerous achievements, served as the editor of JIOS as well as the convenor for Madras Orthodontic study group.?

Dr. Sridevi discussed the history and evolution of functional appliances. She elaborated the selection of cases favourable for treatment with functional appliances and stressed the importance of clinical examination for such cases. She placed an emphasis on wax bite registration for fabricating functional appliances and outlined the treatment effects of various functional appliances while showcasing several cases treated under her guidance.? The program was attended 55 participants from the dental fraternity.
