The Masters Philosophy program at MISHA offers foundational post-graduate level training in the traditional areas of philosophy (including metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic, phenomenology and existentialism), but also pioneers new and evolving research fields such as philosophy's engagement with urgent questions of Health and therapy, Political thought, Aesthetics, Gender and so on. The program inclusively engages the traditions of both Indian and Euro-American philosophy, and students have access to language learning and proficiency in both Sanskrit as well as some European languages such as German. Philosophy here is also taught in a manner that showcases the salience of its concepts and critical research methodology across a host of allied disciplines such as Literature, History, European studies, and Sociology.

The Masters of Arts program offered at the 沙巴体育 Campus immerses students in a multidisciplinary environment to prepare them to specialise in a domain that they gradually, and with guidance, choose. MISHA as a whole is a one-of-a-kind program which has been curated based on diverse expertise: English, European Studies, History, Philosophy, and Sociology. In the first semester, the student is introduced to wide-ranging themes: from contemporary literary and digital cultures to European politics and society, from Indian philosophical texts to Continental systems of thought, from theoretical orientation to training in fieldwork and in archives.

From the second semester onward, the Philosophy program will move toward a broader domain expertise. The idea is that students will increasingly specialise in a domain of their choice—this will be presented through the second and third semester, culminating in a fourth semester extensive research project that can serve as a doctoral pathway. Students also have the option to exit, as per NEP, after the second semester, with a diploma.

With a research-driven pedagogy that blends interactive learning, MOOCs, and self-directed study, the Philosophy program strikes a thoughtful balance between multidisciplinary breadth and domain expertise.

The Philosophy program strongly encourages the development of research skills and temperament in a young scholar. At the heart of the MA program is a student’s work towards their thesis, a substantial and original project of academic research and writing.? Working closely with faculty expertise, students are taught to find a subject area that they are strongly drawn to. Through this phase of research and writing, students cultivate deep disciplinary knowledge alongside broad-based research capabilities that serve in academia and beyond.

The duration of the MA program is four semesters spread across two years.

The first semester exposes the students to all five domains through five foundation courses that orient them to the latest methodologies in the humanities and social sciences.

The second and third semesters offer students the opportunity to specialise through ten courses that are offered by relevant experts in the chosen domain. Two of the courses in the third semester are considered focus courses that are devoted to subjects that the student would like to develop in their individual research profile.

This leads to the fourth and final semester that is devoted to the writing of a personalised thesis under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

The emphasis of the MA program is on developing research-intensive skills in the students that make them capable of competing for admissions to top international and national doctoral programs. Towards this, students receive one-on-one mentorship and guidance that includes institutional support through documents and recommendation letters. Several of our alumni have received fully-funded or partially-funded doctoral admissions to international universities as well as top national institutions such as the IITs and top-ranked central universities.
