The first-ever organ harvesting following a brain death declaration at Wenlock District Hospital

January 10, 2025

The first-ever organ harvesting following a brain death declaration in its remarkable 176-year history was accomplished, thanks to the joint efforts of KMC Mangalore, Wenlock District Hospital, the Jeevasarthakate team, and Apollo BGS Hospital, Mysore.

A patient was declared brain-dead on January 10 in Wenlock Hospital. Her family’s unmatched kindness and generosity led to this life-saving donation.

Her liver was transported to Mysuru under zero-traffic green corridor arrangements, while her eyes were donated to KMC Hospital, Mangalore.

This milestone was made possible by the incredible efforts of the treating medicine unit, MICU postgraduates (batch of 2022) Dr. Tarun Gupta, Dr. Madhur Mundra, and Dr. Santosh Krishna, along with the dedicated MICU nursing staff, under the guidance of Dr. Meghana Madi.

The achievement reflects teamwork, compassion, and humanity.
