Transcending the barriers of caste and religion, arts can bind people together, spreading the message of unity, said the Madhubani artists from Bihar.
Interacting with the students of Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences, MAHE, here today, the Madhubani artists- Saravan Kumar Paswan, Santhosh Kumar Paswan, and Ujala Kumari said that art could be a means of living as well as a meaningful life. It is also true that artists may have to face discrimination based on their birth. However, art can transcend such barriers and unite humanity, they said, narrating their own experiences.
Exhibiting their own paintings, the artists said-while Ramayana and Mahabharata are the major themes of Madhubani paintings, they could experiment with themes bringing out essential unity of all religions. They explained the Mithila, Godhna, and Tantrik styles in Madhubani paintings and their process of making natural colours.
The GCPAS Head, Prof Varadesh Hiregange, artist Dr. Janardhan Havanje, Prof Phaniraj, and students were present. It was organised by GCPAS, MAHE, and Bhavana Foundation. The Madhubani workshop by these artists will continue at Udupi till April 30, 2023.
